I've been working on a track in my back yard.
I tried a few different designs on paper, then staked them out in the grass, then finally broke ground on a 50' x 100' layout with 8' lanes and banked curves.
It's an oval that folds back inside itself, sort of like the outline of the letter C.
Right now it's just dirt and needs more work, but my testers seem pleased.
