diff on my slash

nasty clicking noise from my rear diff. took it apart and the diff is fine internally. the gear that comes from the drive shaft was slipping. lots of gray dust was covering the teeth, is that normal? shouldn't there have been some lube there? the two outer plastic covers for that area don't seal very well. if i clean out the gray dust and lube it with some diff lube will that be ok? any one with experience with the diff for the 1/16 slash please chime in.

Yup there should be some grease in there... and you definately cooked the diff gear... safe to say (because I have done three so far) that you will want to replace both case halves as well as the diff gear... was he running more than one standard battery or a 2s? If hes running the series connector you can expect to be replacing this quite often... the case halves cant take the power of running 14.4v too long...

standard batteries only. I did use the two batt at once, but it was for longer run time not more power. I cleaned the gray stuff out off the teeth and re greased it. why should i replace the case? and is there a better one out there? it seems odd the there are no cross screws to hold it together, a bit of a design flaw?

You will probably have to replace the diff gear as well part number TRA7079 as well as the cases... once the cases get loose they round off the gears as well... the cases are TRA7029X for the rear and TRA7030X for the fronts...

any tips for when i replace the diff?

basically pay attention to screw placement... you already have it apart so you did most of the work... make sure you fill the diff with diff fluid... 10k to 30k should be really good... its pretty straight forward...
