    motor temps Empty motor temps

    Post  brettweir78 Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:07 pm

So I picked up a Losi mini late model. I have been running it in the driveway and the motor temps are getting real hot (200deg f) Is this normal on this car. The esc temp is only 120deg and the air temp is 80deg. I dropped the pinion down one tooth from what it had but no help. I tried another motor and temps are the same. I am running a 2cell lipo 20c 2200mah.

How long are you running the car? Are using all the battery? Mine gets so hot you can't touch it. I never temped it though ,like I do my EDM's. I know with our 1/10 brushless in racing conditions we don't let them get past 160-170. One good thing about the mini late model motors is at $10 new you can afford toast one once in awhile.

I would go up a tooth or two on the pinion, and down another one or two on the pinion...

you shouldnt have any temp issues then...

also, Like Phil said, check your bearings,

    Good Luck!

up on pin down on spur well make it over heat faster puts more TQ on motor ..

Thanks for the advice guys. I did drop the pinion but it did not seem to help any. I had the tranny apart and did not find any bad bearings. The idler gear did not have bearings if I remember right. I will have to pull it apart again. By the way I am running 2200mah lipo so my run times are pretty long.
