Try dialing your throttle setting on your transmitter back to around 70% or so; Brett found that it made a difference, as the Venom 21T motor has more than enough power for the Goose, maybe too much. Dialing back the throttle makes the car more controllable and better overall around the track. I might look into lowering the gear ratio as well. And yes you need to drive in "gentle" the sweeper at the end of the front straight. That is another reason to try dialing back the throttle setting.

I plan on doing some testing at RCH on Friday after work, and I will post here what the results are.

Are you going to the "test and tune" session at the Kmart parking lot this sunday at 2:00? Rob will have the track set up I think. Might want to check with him about that. I plan on being there.

Post  Enforcerman Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:34 pm

Well today I went to RCH and did some further testing of my Goose. My setup was to use the yellow springs up front and the red springs in the rear. I also installed the blue(thinnest) swaybar in the front. Both optional weight sets were installed up front as well. Battery was in full rear position. Kit tires and wheels.
The throttle setting on the transmitter was set to 70% and the steering dual rate was at 100% with -50% steering exponential.

With this setup the car ran much better and there was no traction rolling at all, and I could turn into the corners including the sweeper at the end of the front straight better. I tried dialing the throttle down to 60% with not much noticeable difference. At one point I had it all the way down to 20%; still plenty of speed.

One thing of concern, was that the first 4-5 minutes was good but as I ran longer the handling seemed to go away a bit. The rear traction seemed to go away which made the car squirrly. Maybe that traction compound(SXT 3.0) I was using didn't hold up well enough; may need to try a different compound for rubber tires.

The next thing I am going to do is adjust the motor timing; mine is set to the highest setting. I am going to turn it all the way down. May even try lowering the gear ratio; smaller pinion. The point is that the Venom 21T motor with the 2 cell lipo is more than enough power for the Goose. Tamiya makes a rear wheel drive mini called the M-06 which is raced and they use the Johnson Mabuchi closed endbell motor on it and that seems to be a better power match for rear wheel drive cars. I'm not suggesting we change motors; just tune the Venom down in order to make the car more driveable.

From here I am going to the "test and tune" at the KMart parking lot on Sunday to try the Goose on pavement.

I spent some time driving the goose in the parking lot of the union hall. I made a few adjustments to the steering and throttle as well. I had the throttle set to 70% and steering set to 110%. The rear still can spin out if it gets into sandy conditions. For the most part the car does pretty good on asphalt.

    Dom,

Brett and I talked about those dogbones yesterday, and we can't see why you would need them to widen the track width of the car. The 7mm hubs should be all you need.

I will know for sure when I get the hubs.

Brett, according to Yusuke at ABC Hobby, you can remove that spacer on the upper rear pivot to gain more camber, and you don't need to put a thinner one in. Just take it out.

I will take the spacer out for testing but once I figure out what works I will lock it down with the correct shim spacer.

I ran the Mini Sweeps on my Goose this past Sunday at the KMart lot and they were ok I guess. The lot was so dusty it was hard to get much grip, period. Rob is going to blow it off with a leaf blower next time. The tires seemed to hold up well though.

I am going to try the Tamiya S Grip mini radials next.

Not sure if I can make it to RCH this weekend. Maybe.

being that Sweep Racing is a title sponsor of the Extreme Asphalt Series. I think that they should be the only other tire to be ran if you change from the stock tires.

I just checked the rules and it is only the stock tires or the Sweeps. We definately will get a better idea when the track is cleaned.

Hey, did anybody take a look at the proposed track plans? The best compromise might be the third one as we can run nitro and electric on the track.
